While standard Leucs feature thick, bold black bands, the Fine Spot locality is characterized by an intricate explosion of tiny, crisp black dots peppered across a high-contrast yellow or golden-orange background.

"Leucs" are widely considered the best choice for first-time dart frog keepers for several reasons: they are bold, active, and less prone to "hiding" than other species. Most uniquely, D. leucomelas is one of the few dart frogs that truly vocalizes with a loud, beautiful bird-like trill. They are also among the most social dart frogs, often thriving in small groups.
