Bring the essential biological benefits of the rainforest floor directly into your habitats with our Premium Indian Almond Leaves (also known as Catappa Leaves). Highly prized by dart frog breeders, aquarists, and bioactive enthusiasts, these versatile botanicals serve two major functions: providing a long-lasting, slow-decaying leaf litter matrix for land setups, and acting as the perfect raw ingredient for brewing tannin-rich "tadpole tea".
When scattered across a humid vivarium floor, these leaves form a realistic, multi-layered forest floor texture. They don't just look incredible—as they slowly break down, they provide an essential, primary food source and breeding ground for your cleanup crew (isopods and springtails). When used in aquatic or semi-aquatic setups, they release humic acids and powerful organic tannins that condition water, lower pH safely, and deliver mild, natural antibacterial and antifungal protection for delicate species.
Highlights & Features
Perfect for Tadpole & Frog Tea: Safely conditions water for rearing delicate dart frog tadpoles, mimicking the dark, tannin-rich blackwater environments found inside wild bromeliads and tree holes.
Slow-Decaying Leaf Litter: Unlike thin domestic leaves that rot quickly, sturdy Catappa leaves break down slowly over several weeks to form lasting structural cover.
Cleanup Crew Fuel: Acts as an exceptional baseline diet for isopods, springtails, and microfauna, boosting your enclosure's bioactive cycle.
Natural Pathogen Shield: Releases humic substances and tannins that naturally fight off fungal spores and bacterial outbreaks in high-humidity setups.
100% All-Natural & Clean: Hand-selected, dried, and thoroughly cleaned to ensure they are completely bio-secure and free of any additives or pollutants.
Dual-Use Instructions
1. As Terrarium Leaf Litter
Simply scatter the dry leaves over your substrate layer. Pack them 2 to 3 layers deep to establish secure microclimates, humid hiding cracks, and foraging pathways for small geckos, frogs, and invertebrates. Add fresh leaves periodically as the bottom layers break down into soil.
2. To Brew Tadpole / Frog Tea
Quick Batch: Place 1 large leaf into a container and pour 1 to 2 cups of boiling water over it. Allow it to steep and cool entirely to room temperature before using the amber-tinted liquid directly in your tadpole cups.
Concentrate Batch: Boil 10–15 leaves in a gallon of clean water for 15–20 minutes. Let the deep brown concentrate cool, strain out the debris, and store it in your refrigerator for months of regular use. (Always ensure liquid warms back to room temp before introducing it to livestock).
