Collection: The Oophaga Collection
Welcome to the absolute pinnacle of the poison dart frog hobby. The genus Oophaga represents some of the most captivating, visually stunning, and behaviorally complex amphibians on Earth. Originating from the dense, humid rainforests of Central and South America, these frogs are famous worldwide for their brilliant, high-contrast aposematic warning coloration. From the legendary jewel-toned locales of Oophaga pumilio to the deeply prized variations of Oophaga histrionica, this collection is curated strictly for dedicated hobbyists seeking true living masterpieces for their custom vertical vivariums.
The name Oophaga translates literally to "egg-eater," referencing their extraordinary and highly unique reproductive strategy. Unlike other dart frogs, species within this genus are obligate egg-feeders. Dedicated females carefully transport newly hatched tadpoles into individual water-filled bromeliad axils or film canisters, returning faithfully every few days to deposit unfertilized food eggs to feed their developing young. Witnessing this complex parental behavior in a beautifully structured, bioactive enclosure is widely considered one of the most rewarding experiences in the entire herpetoculture community.

Core Collection Care Guidelines
| Parameter | Recommended Setup |
|---|---|
| Enclosure Style | Taller, vertical euro-style or front-opening glass terrariums to accommodate their climbing nature. |
| Social Structure | Highly territorial. Best housed strictly in single, well-matched pairs (one male, one female). Do not mix species. |
| Humidity & Misting | Requires consistent high humidity (80–100%) maintained by automated, fine-mist systems. |
| Baseline Diet | Must have constant access to small, live prey: vitamin-dusted fruit flies (D. melanogaster & D. hydei), springtails, and micro-fauna. |
| Essential Hardscape | Heavily layered with clean leaf litter, climbing driftwood, and numerous spikeless bromeliads for tadpole deposition. |
